Attention Deficit knitting

It's not that I can't finish a project, it's just something about doing finishing work to a project. Ah, I can't explain it but weaving in ends, knitting borders (not even Nicky can talk me into it being fun), it's hard to explain. Definitely worth reviewing in therapy...

I owe a huge thanks to Marguerite for all of her help with the pattern.

Some Finished Objects

Before and after shots of a great messenger bag I felted for my 17 year old. Sure hope he uses it soon or he'll be sorry, Mom will repossess it in a heartbeat! I made it using a pattern from Knitty.com and I got the wool from Purlsoho in New York (I love how they pack their mail orders, mine came in turquoise tissue paper). The yarn I used was Woolpak in Blaze Orange and brown Lamb's Pride.

Who Knew?

Spent the day figuring out all of this blog stuff, haven't had a chance to pick up any needles. Actually, I'm a bit hung over from a very late party at my neighbor Beverly's celebrating her 25th anniversary. Honestly, who knew that 2 glasses of wine can make someone so sick the next day. I wore the best shoes - a brand new pair that I bought 2 years ago but haven't had an occasion to wear them (gotta get a better night life). Here's the kicker, you see the size of those heels? Well in an attempt to keep from looking at the gaping hole in my kitchen ceiling, I spent the day in the garden and I nearly broke my ankle coming down the stairs from the deck! Not tripping in those gorgeous shoes but in my favorite garden clogs! I love these clogs - they are comfy, waterproof and colorful and color is so important to a knitter. Problem is I seem to always lose my footing in them but I've never hurt myself this badly before. Who knew that twisting your ankle COULD BE SO PAINFUL!!??

I love parrot tulips and I planted a couple hundred over the years. I think I'm down to just 4 survivors now. I can't say if I should blame the squirrels or if it is that these pretty petaled darlings just can't bring themselves to repeat performances. I'll just have to plant more this Fall. If you know any tricks other than bulb booster stuff or caging in the bulbs underground - do tell!

OHMYGOD

Returned from a 10 day stint (some call it vacation) in Florida only to find that my kitchen ceiling is on the brink of collapsing under a flood (actually a constant trickle) of water!! Yuck! I sometimes want to get out of the kitchen - so I can knit- but this is ridiculous! My mother always warned me, "watch what you pray for" but jeez Ma, must I be taken literally??? So, the insurance company told me to punch through the ceiling to find out where the water was coming from. Bad news. Seems like the pipe in my shower is leaking and the water had been pouring all over the place - inside the walls!

Knitting Experiments Gone Wild

This is a strange bag done in Patons Voodoo, some wool, some mohair and raffia. Whenever I wear it, I feel like Grettle... I shed bits of raffia everywhere I go. I still love it though! The handle I got from my friends at Close Knit in HoHoKus, NJ. My friend Leslie who works there makes the most fabulous bags.

To Knit or to Blog??

I've been attempting to do this blogging thing now for over a year and decided to just take the plunge. As a former techy I am overwhelmed by all of the specialized language and formats and technospeak that I've got to learn just to make this thing half way interesting. I use to code in assembler so why is this stuff so #*!&$ complicated??? Anyways, similar to when you suddenly become shy before a stranger, I find it difficult to talk about the myriad events that seem to surround my weird life which afterall, will give me loads to talk about - just wait you won't believe the wacky stuff that seems to happen. And with all of that going on, I just want to knit and garden, read and cook, write and dream, dance and sing but wait, the car will probably break down on some deserted road where skin heads hold their secret meetings...

This is the lone survivor from a large bed of Asiatic Lilies I used to have in my garden. At night, their fragrance was divine. Then came the bunnies and who can exterminate bunnies? So I let them be and they devoured all my lilies (including some choice hostas) save this lone darling. I had stupidly planted her in a raised flower box along with some herbs. "What a dumb decision," I would say to myself each season when she bloomed tangled up in oregano, actually turned out to be not a bad idea.
