Monday (the so-called holiday), we had to get down to the field in the early am because this year's race was threatening to attract some 6,000 runners all looking for grand prizes of BMWs and cash.
There were folks from all age groups and abilities. They all looked psyched too until a half dozen Ethiopians showed up. Well that was the end of that. The Africans gracefully sprinted to the finish barely breaking a sweat in the 80 plus degree temperature.
My 'not quite fully African' son did great for his first time out, a 22 minute 5k. Not bad! But no Beemer.
All in all it was a fun morning and now my son is talking cross country track!
The pictures you will see below are more sad visuals of my continuing brushes with bad luck. My dryer broke down and I had the wonderful experience of visiting, for the first time on the 'so called holiday', my town's laundromat...
As it was the 'so-called holiday' weekend and I spent most of it drying clothes, I didn't plan any parties or cookouts with the kids. They sulked and complained and otherwise looked mistreated so I decided to drag my already tired behind to the supermarket on the 'so-called' holiday to buy burgers, hot dogs, coal, etc.
I guess everyone was at their beach houses, pool parties, barbecuing, sitting out on the chaise and relaxing holiday. I couldn't help it but I stood in the middle of the store and didn't want to leave.
Back home, I pulled the cover off the grill, the first time this season and prepared to clean the $^$#@ thing so's my hungry boys could have a cookout when this masked bandit shows up...
I raced into the house. I don't know about y'all but raccoons in the daytime gives me the creeps! Did somebody say rabies??
Congrats on the run!! And you were right to get in the house from that raccoon - they are normally nocturnal animals. We had a rabid one in our yard a few years ago, too.
ReplyDeleteYay for the runner! That's great for a first timer.
ReplyDeleteHehe, what a cute little bandit. I'd have run in the house, too. Don't those things usually come out at night?
Hurrah for your son! What a wonderful accomplishment. You, on the other hand, need a vacation to recover from your "holiday weekend."
ReplyDeleteDeborah, you NEVER fail to crack me up. You should've told me about that marathon. I would've started training 3 years ago, at the thought of winning a Beamer. Oh well, I guess I'll have to stick it out in my Hyundai, rofl. Good for your son, he tried, and he actually has plans for bigger obstacles. That's great. I did laundry too over the holiday. It was pretty quick though. Yea, Racoons scare me too. They just tore down a building on my street, because of too many racoon reports. I wonder if I call city hall will they come tear the house down next door to me. I'm sure there are coons in their yard.
ReplyDeleteYou have to be careful around those masked bandits. They're cute but they aren't shy if they're hungry.
ReplyDeleteI hope your dryer gets fixed and the good luck fairy pays you a visit soon :).
Dang Deborah, what is it with you and these wild animals. First it was the skunk in the chimney, now a racoon in the backyard. you must really have a cool house cause they sure love visiting you! LOL, sorry i just couldn't resist.
ReplyDeleteGood luck getting the dryer working again, and congrats to youR son. I would be passed out in the middle of the street trying to run a 5K and he did it in 22 minutes. GREAT
Good for your son...he did great :)
ReplyDeleteMy boys are very s l o w runners....
Raccoons are cute, but I agree if they're seen in the daylight on my porch that's when I get the bleach out!! (That is after they're gone)
That's my worst nightmare...either the dryer or washing machine breaking down...I feel for you!
Wow he did fantastic!!! And don't you wish the grocery store looked like that EVERYtime we went inside?? I went today and it was a ZOO. Stupid me forgot today was Thursday....
ReplyDeleteAnd as you know, there IS no holiday fun as a mom.
What a handsome son you have! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh and look at that cutie in your backgarden (I think I would have hidden too)!
Well done to your son for running that distance. I get in a sweat just thinking about it. My 12 year old has her sports day tomorrow and she is dreading it. We don't get Racoons over here in the UK, most we get in our garden is birds and a stray cat LOL
