Sockrateases

Yeah so I was knitting along 'swimmingly' when BAM my count is off and the whole gusset thing looks stupid. Of course I tried to talk myself out of the inevitable but after recalling a great philosopher's advice -

"In the Socratic dialogues (discussions with other sock experts), his extended conversations with students, statesmen, and friends invariably aim at understanding and achieving virtue through the careful application of a dialectical method that employs critical inquiry to undermine the plausibility of widely-held doctrines (any knitter can learn to knit socks). Destroying the illusion that we already comprehend the world perfectly (dammit I know how to knit, why the hell is this so hard) and honestly accepting the fact of our own ignorance (gots to crawl before you walk), Socrates believed, are vital steps toward our acquisition of genuine knowledge (if at first you don't succeed...), by discovering universal definitions of the key concepts governing human life (learning to knit with microscopic sticks).*

Deborah,
oh pooh, I'm sorry you've hit a snag, but don't give up (I know you won't). I taught myself to knit socks and it took quite awhile and I made some big blunders but I soldiered on and ended up knitting some 50+ pairs of socks before my hands hurt too much using the tiny needles. I know you can do it!
